Exploring Alternative Healing Modalities for Veteran Suicide Prevention

Help us shape the conversation on mental health and healing for our veterans.

As we continue working on our documentary, which focuses on the urgent need for veteran suicide prevention, we are exploring different healing modalities that could potentially make a huge difference in the lives of those who have served our country. We believe that one of the most powerful ways to heal trauma and stress is through alternative therapies—things like music therapy, art therapy, yoga, sports activities, and even outdoor adventures.

Now, we need your help!

We’re conducting research and gathering insights to better understand which of these alternative healing methods can truly help veterans in their journey toward healing and hope. We would love for you to take a moment to reflect on the following questions:

1️⃣ What alternative healing modalities do you think could help support veteran suicide prevention, and why?
There are a range of therapies to consider: music therapy, art therapy, filmmaking, acting, songwriting, yoga, tai chi, hiking, cycling, traveling, and many more. What do you believe holds the most promise for healing veterans from the stress and trauma they face?

2️⃣ Have you or someone you know benefited from alternative therapies like songwriting, filmmaking, hiking, sports, or animal therapy? What impact did it have?
If you or someone close to you has found healing through unconventional therapies, we’d love to hear your story! Your personal experience is invaluable in understanding how these practices can positively impact mental health.

3️⃣ What barriers do you think veterans face in accessing alternative healing practices, such as sports, traveling, ikebana, or filmmaking? How can we make these resources more accessible?
Veterans often face numerous barriers when seeking help, such as financial constraints, limited access to resources, or difficulty navigating complex application processes. We want to hear your thoughts on how we can address these challenges and create more inclusive, effective programs for veterans.

How Can You Help?
We are so grateful for your input and encourage you to share your thoughts with us. Your feedback will not only help us shape the narrative for our documentary but also contribute to a larger conversation about how we can better support veterans in their mental health journey.
